Key Facts

Known for being good value, you can get all the benefits of a 207 for as little as £4,000 on the used market.

The 207 comes with two (for the cabriolet versions), three or five doors, and the diesel engine proves the most popular with those seeking a quality used vehicle. Plus, plenty of those diesel engines can produce up to 118 bhp, so there’s a good chance you’ll be able to find one that’s off the line quick in town and can comfortably reach higher speeds on the motorway.

Why buy a Peugeot 207?

Stylish despite its age, you get a lot for a low price tag with the 207. It was rated as the most reliable used car in 2011 in a survey by Warranty Direct and, as such, shouldn’t be having you drive it to the garage too often. If you’re looking at it as a potential first car, the simple dashboards are useful for new drivers to get to grips with.

Previous Range

Sport by name and nature: 207 Sportium

Sport by name and nature: 207 Sportium

In the middle of the 207 range, many of the essentials come as standard on the Active. Despite the name, it’s not boy-racer quick from a standing start and the horsepower available can vary, but it was produced in the last year of the 207 range’s life, so you’re getting a lot of modern comforts for your money.

For a bit of flash: 207 Allure

For a bit of flash: 207 Allure

Coming as a three-door supermini or two-door cabriolet, the Allure is one of the more luxurious models in the 207 range. The convertible has an electrically folding roof which, when down, makes the Allure look effortlessly stylish, while it’s not lacking in equipment either.

Although it’s more expensive, you get plenty of power, pace and kit for your money, with used models selling for £8,000 and less.

What are the Alternatives?

Something more modern: Peugeot 208

Something more modern: Peugeot 208

The successor to the 207, it looks a little more sleek and up-to-date and has a little more on-board kit. However, there is a notable difference in the price tag while, where the basics are concerned, there’s little tangible difference in performance, running costs and insurance.

If you want a little more tech behind the wheel, the 208 is for you, but for no-frills motoring, its predecessor does the job ably.

Tried and tested value: Ford Fiesta

Tried and tested value: Ford Fiesta

The Fiesta is one of the most popular smaller cars around and with good reason. It’s reliable, economical, spacious and made to last for years. They retail used from just over £5,000 and have won multiple awards over the years.

For added style: Renault Clio

A sleek French rival to the 207, the Clio is still going strong, but many used versions are comparable in size, cost, equipment and performance. The old model does look a little dated, but still has an air of class that you’d come to expect from a Renault.
