Used Mazda Mx-5 for sale

The Mazda MX-5 is a car that has always been praised for its back-to-basics appeal; it’s just you, the car and the road. You’ll find that some models are available for well under £10,000 on the used market, competitively priced against any hot hatchback or supermini.

The MX-5’s launch in 1989 marked Mazda bringing back the quintessentially British two-seater sports car design for a whole new generation – and it’s still loved today, over 25 years later. It’s difficult to find anything else which offers top-down, sporty thrills at the same price.

Key Facts

You won’t find a sports roadster for better value than the MX-5. A good price upfront and sensible running costs make the great drive even harder to believe.

Even with the standard trim on the third generation MX-5 (2005–2015), the lowest performing engine still puts out almost 130bhp and does 60mph in 9.6 seconds. Even though the MX-5’s appeal stems from its simplicity, the more recently produced versions can be found with good extras.

Why buy a Mazda Mx-5?

If you want to release in the inner race car driver inside you with a vehicle that’s actually quite sensible and affordable, then the MX-5 is a great alternative to a run-of-the-mill hatchback without costing the earth.

Having a removable roof is a big bonus when the sun comes out – even though in the UK, this might not be too often – while the MX-5’s decent engine and lightness combine to allow you to really shift when you have to.

Fun and speed at little cost: Mazda MX-5 range

Whichever model you look at in the MX-5 range, you’re going to get a fun and fast drive. Which makes it ideal for those who want to really enjoy their driving, or those who’ve always wanted a roadster-type convertible. Of course, bear in mind that the MX-5 only has two seats, including the driver, so it’s a better option for singles and couples rather than families.

To get into the range for the lowest cost, there’s the pragmatically titled ‘standard trim’, but should you desire more than the bare bones then you should begin to look further through the line-up at the Kendo, Icon and, at very nearly the top end, the Sport. There you can expect to get a trip computer, the luxury of heated front seats and generously sized alloy wheels.
