As a small car, the C1 is cheap to both buy and run, as its vital statistics will tell you. The smallest engine in the range – a 1.0-litre petrol – produces just 106g/km CO2, more than enough to get it in that all-important free road tax range.
It’s reliable too, although somewhat on the slow side with a modest top speed of 98 mph across the majority of the range. But that’s great for new drivers whose confidence might not match well with a more powerful motor.
If you want to get from point A to point B in a chic-looking little runner that won’t burn a hole in your pocket to buy or run, we wouldn’t blame you for having the C1 at the top of your shortlist. As a first car for a student, young worker or young couple, it does all the basics really well. Even the more expensive trims are still available at an affordable price, should you want a few luxuries.
