Key Facts

TT prices start out at a surprisingly modest end of the spectrum, considering the car’s pedigree, although speed lovers will relish the opportunity to move up a level and opt for a TTS or TT RS model, getting more bang for the buck.

Audi’s renowned build quality spreads throughout the entire range. Iconic, with style by the bucket-load, it’s known as a reliable drive with a to-die-for exterior.

Why buy a Audi Tt?

The TT’s key offering comes in its iconic design and its ability to be ceaselessly fun to drive. It comes with a good amount of power for its price tag too, while the Audi badge is a big draw alone – it’s a brand with a great reputation.

The well-made TT itself is recognised as a leader in its class, just as Audi is recognised as a leading manufacturer in the mechanical world.

Which Audi Tt is right for me?

Previous Range

For comfort and speed: Audi TT Coupé

For comfort and speed: Audi TT Coupé

This may be the ‘standard’ TT, but in truth, it’s anything but standard, being a truly amazing car to drive. This is down to Audi’s great chassis, as well as offering great performance from beneath the bonnet.

The car’s looks are up there with the best in its class, and both automatics and manuals are available – the auto being particularly good for motorway driving, making long commutes a breeze.

Suave style for less: Audi TT Roadster

Suave style for less: Audi TT Roadster

Alike to the Roadster model in the latest range, its previous incarnation offers almost as much style for a lot less money than its newer sibling. Coming as a convertible, it one-ups the Coupé in terms of street cred immediately, although it’s far from a one-trick pony.

Opting for the S line package gives you more luxuries in the cockpit, making it a great option for long journeys, and choosing a model with the 2.0 litre Quattro engine ensures there’s more than enough power to compensate for the standard weight-gain of a convertible over the hardtop TT.

What are the Alternatives?

For a more distinct look: Peugeot RCZ

For a more distinct look: Peugeot RCZ

Think Peugeot; think hatchbacks. However, the French car manufacturer strayed from its roots to create the sporty RCZ, a world away from the rest of their range. An exciting coupé that looks the part just as much as the Audi, it’s also often available at a slightly cheaper price.

However, the RCZ is down on power in comparison to Audi’s offering. The sportiest model in the range – the GT Line – puts out 200 bhp when new, while any TT fitted with the 2.0-litre engine treats you to almost 30 more horse power.

Precision and pedigree: Mazda MX-5

Precision and pedigree: Mazda MX-5

Embodying everything that was great about the British two-seater sports cars of the ‘60s, the MX-5 began life back in 1989 and has fully stood the test of time, with the fourth generation model debuting in 2015.

While its 2.0-litre engine only offers just shy of 160 bhp, the MX-5 more than makes up for it in terms of weight – it’s a light car. It’s also well priced in comparison to the TT, although not as much cockpit kit comes as standard.

A sporty hatchback: Volkswagen Scirocco

A sporty hatchback: Volkswagen Scirocco

Something entirely different, VW’s hatchback comes in at a similar price to the TT, with a different set of pros and cons.

While the TT is quick, the Scirocco is economical and roomier inside, especially in the back. And although they are two different types of car, both are stylish in their own right.

If you’re looking for something a little more sensible that will more comfortably take on the task of doubling as a family runner, a hatch makes more sense than a sporty coupé.
