Whether you’re looking to buy a hot hatch or a prestige saloon, you don’t need to fork out too much cash for the benefit on the used market. Here are our top picks for some of the best premium cars you can find for less than £10,000 at The Car People…
The only car in its class with rear-wheel drive, the 1 Series benefits from having supreme road-holding abilities, while BMW’s superior build quality is another big draw. Below the £10,000 mark, you can expect to find varying levels of trim and engines. They can be pretty quick too, with the 118d delivering 143bhp and can do 0-60mph in just under 9 seconds. Older models can be found cheaply, whereas models around the £10k budget are better equipped with the likes of Bluetooth connectivity and speed limiter.
A rival for the aforementioned 1 Series, A3s within the budget
Citroen’s DS marque provides a more premium image without the large price tag. In late 2015, DS dropped the Citroen branding and have adopted a more prestigious look. For less than £10,000 you can get yourself a high spec model, featuring a touchscreen infotainment system (some coming with navigation), automatic headlights and wipers and cruise control/speed limiter. A variety of engines are available, petrol and diesel, including a 155bhp 1.6 turbocharged petrol engine that can do 0-60 in less than 8 seconds. If you’re after a quick car that’s not too

One of the best value-for-money hot hatches on the market, the 200bhp 208 GTi offers auto lights and wipers, cruise control/speed limiter and dual climate control as standard (some models can be found with sat-nav). If you’re looking for an alternative to the Ford Fiesta ST, look no further. You can find many used examples between £8,000 and £9,000, whereas you’d struggle to find even a base model ST within that range.
Although smaller than the A3, the sporty A1 makes up for it by being better equipped, with a wide range of specs and engines available within the £10,000 budget. Features that can be found on the A1 include stylish, large alloy wheels, navigation and Bluetooth connectivity. The desirable top spec S Line trims can also be found within this budget.
