Just up the road, Pugneys offers a wide range of activities, including several waters ports from dinghy sailing and windsurfing to kayaking and powerboating. Of course, if you’re not so much an adrenaline junkie, you can take a stroll around the lake and relax with refreshments from the on-site café.

Newmillerdam Country Park (Link)

Located 3 miles south of our Wakefield branch, Newmillerdam Country Park features a central lake surrounded by a surfaced path with surrounding broadleaved and coniferous woodland located on the slopes. The 1.5 mile path around the lake is ideal for walkers and joggers and there are also way-marked trails for walkers, joggers, cyclists and horse riders.

The park is a designated nature reserve, with plenty of water birds to keep an eye out for. Even bats can be seen during the warmer months at sunset, including Britain’s largest bat, the Noctule Bat.

Go Shopping

Trinity Walk (Link)

Just outside the city centre, Trinity Walk is home to more than 60 stores, restaurants, hair salons, a supermarket, bank, gym, cafés and 24 hour on site parking (charges apply, though free for 2 hours if you spend more than £10 at Sainsbury’s).

Ridings Shopping Centre (Link)

From Yorkshire.com:

Based in the heart of Wakefield city centre, The Ridings Shopping Centre offers popular high street names, independent stores and a convenient, welcoming place to meet for a coffee or bite to eat.

With over 80 stores over three floors and open 7 days a week, The Ridings combines fashion, beauty, food and homeware - there’s something for everyone!

Shop your favourite high street brands such as M&S, Boots, Primark, BHS and TK Maxx, then find something a little different in independently-owned stores like Created in Yorkshire and Feather’s Confectionery.

Enjoy one of the many fun, free events which are held regularly at the Centre, and with everything from craft fairs and style events to tea dances and kids’ character events, they’re suitable for all the family.

There’s parking for 1000+ cars (charges apply) and a mobility centre, so getting to and around the Ridings has never been easier and since it’s all undercover, you can shop with ease, whatever the weather!

Grab a bite

Wetherby Whaler (Link)

Right next door to our Wakefield branch and popular with many members of the team, the Wetherby Whaler has been providing Yorkshire’s finest fish and chips for over 40 years.

Toby Carvery (Link)

Another of our neighbours, you certainly can’t beat a carvery. The restaurant offers other choices if a carvery is not your thing and, for the early birds, breakfast is also offered.
